How is 2018 Going to be Different?               Article of the week Jan 8-12, 2018


Every January I like to take some time to think about what I want to accomplish over the next 12 months.  I know that if I don't set some clearly defined goals it is likely that my life is going to look the same 12 months from now as it does today.  There are many types of goals you can set but I want to focus on some health goals that you may wish to consider.  Here is a list of some goal suggestions together with 5 simple tips that I hope will help you be able to follow through and succeed with the goals you set:


  • Move more
  • Spend more time outside
  • Drink more water
  • Practice more acts of kindness
  • Practice gratitude (gratitude journal)
  • Sleep more (7-8 hrs) – go to be earlier
  • Eliminate soda (regular or diet)
  • Stop smoking
  • Achieve a healthy body composition (release weight)
  • Reduce alcohol consumption
  • Be more social
  • Eat more greens
  • Sit less
  • Get consistent with spinal traction exercises
  • Take an omega-3 supplement every day
  • Eliminate sugar
  • No eating after dinner, before bed


Now for 5 tips to help you succeed:


1.Commit to 30 days.  Don't think too far ahead.  If you can make it through the first month a new habit is much more likely to stick.

2.Do it daily.  Consistency is the key, and the more often you engage in the habit the better.  For example, it you're trying to move more, walk every day for the first 30 days, even if it's only for a short distance.

3.Enlist accountability.  If you can tell someone close that you trust what you are trying to change they can support you.  By sharing your goal you may have your accountability partner join you.

4.Write it down.  It has been proven that written goals are more likely to be achieved.

5.Start simple.  Pick the goal that is your highest priority and focus on that one.  Don't try to overwhelm yourself with too many changes at once.
